With each passing year it feels as if time speeds up and the years pass by quicker and quicker. I have always been aware of how fast time passes us by and that a lifetime will happen in a blink of an eye. With 2017 right around the corner I have spent time reflecting on this past year and have come to a few realizations. Personally 2016 has been a big year for me and I have hope, that 2017 will be even a bigger one yet.

Every year it seems that people start New Year’s resolutions on January 1st. Seemingly to improve their life to make this year the best year yet. As soon as the resolution is made it seems to fade into the background and be forgotten until the next year rolls around. With promise that next year will be the year for change and improvement. So I asked myself why is it so difficult to stick to New Year’s resolutions. Why is it considered a challenge for many to consciously make choices to better their lives.

I have come to the realization that despite the new year my life will not be great or the best year yet if I don’t make the effort to improve. As people we are constantly evolving and growing. Hopefully we are all eager to push ourselves forward in a positive direction. I know as a young adult I have changed so much in just the past few months let alone a year. We are constantly growing as people and as we do our views and perspectives shift as well.

With this realization I have come to gain perspective on why it might be hard to stick to New Year’s resolutions for many. The reasons why sticking to the resolutions are so difficult is because of fear, accountability, and having the wrong outlook.

Fear is something that universally everyone has faced at one point in their lives. Fear is a constant battle because it is always in the back of our heads causing doubt to seep in. What if I can’t, what if I fail, what if I wont be able to change. It’s normal to feel the fear and hear the doubt but it takes bravery to silence the voice of doubt and start believing you can. You can, you will, you are going to! Don’t let fear hold you back. Beat fear by believing in yourself because if there is a will there is a way and all your wildest dreams will become realities.

Accountability is something many struggle with. When something goes wrong or doesn’t work , no one wants to be on the side receiving the blame. Not often do people willing want to stand up and say “yes that was me, and yes that did not work out”. As humans we have a thing called pride that can get in the way of humility and accountability. If you want to accomplish something for yourself in 2017 you are going to have to hold yourself accountable to do so. At the end of the day the positive changes you will make in your life are going to impact you the most so you are going to need to be an advocate for yourself. No one can force you to feel, do or say anything you don’t want to. If you want to make a change this year do so and hold yourself accountable for making that change happen.

Personally I have always been a glass half full girl myself, but I have been witness to how a wrong perspective on life can spiral out of control. There are pessimists and optimists and everyone has a different perspective which makes the world turn. When someone has a negative mindset that can really hold them back in all aspects of their lives. Your mind and thoughts are so powerful and if you are thinking negative things then your thoughts change your perspective and your perspective effects your actions. When you have a mindset where you believe in yourself and know that you can achieve your goals then you will start putting those motions into actions. You might have never been told this before but I believe in you and I know you can achieve all your goals and positively impact others, just have faith in yourself and capabilities.

This year is going to be what you make of it. The year won’t magically become the best one yet if you aren’t going to put the effort to make that happen! I believe in you as a person, in your dreams, in whatever your going to do this year to help others. I know that life is what you make of it and I am living proof that silencing fear, holding yourself accountable and having the right mindset will help you succeed.

Make 2017 a great year by making the changes needed to do so! I believe in YOU!
