I am one of those people who like to have somewhat of a plan. Before I get in the car to go somewhere new I like to have maps pulled up on my phone and figured out the best route to take to get to my destination.
The funniest thing that God has taught me time and time again is each time I come up with a plan of where I want to head and what I want to do he has something else in mind for what my future is about to become. God is a sovereign God and he always will lead us in his direction with the plans he dreams for this life.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.- Jeremiah 29:11
The other night in church my pastor came to the congregation and asked us if we believed God was powerful and mighty over everything in our lives. He continued by saying if we really believed that then do we believe he is in control over, our health, our bad relationships, our past sins and all that is broken with us?
Of course as he said that I said to myself yes I do but later that day God tested my actual belief in that complicating things just a little more to push me closer to leaning on him.
Typically after a Saturday night service and a busy week of work ahead I like to go home and relax, watch a movie or just hang out. After service last week on a very rainy Saturday night we planned to get take out from a local restaurant and watch a movie.
The church I go to is in a small city and the parking is very limited. So much to my surprise we got a front row parking spot in the church’s parking lot. It was pouring rain and we felt so blessed to get to park so close to church. We darted from the car into church for Saturday night service.
After service was over we started to walk to car and got to the parking lot our where we parked to find our car was not where we left it rather a bright blue truck was in the spot instead.
My mind started racing. I was like um, what? Where did the car go? How were we going to get home? I was so confused as to what was even happening.
Well, long story short we found out that the car got towed. Some how we parked in a spot that wasn't part of the church’s parking lot but rather part of an apartment complex next door.
The next step was to find out where the car was towed and then how to get to it back. We were so blessed that my pastor helped us located the car and drive us to where it was towed. It was a very dramatic drive there. It was pouring rain and we had with less than 30 minutes to get to where the car was towed before the towing company closed for the night.
The conversation we had with the pastor on the way there is what we need to hear and spoke truth into our lives. The night didn't go as planned but God had something else planned and used that time to push us closer to him and lean into his word.
We were able to spend time talking to our pastor that we wouldn't have had before and we were able to pray and lean into God to trust he would help us find the car.
Things don't always go as planned. The simplest of things like a plan for a Saturday night or the things that we want to do with our lives don't always end up working out in the way we though they would. God can take any situation and use it to make us rely on him even more.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your path straight.” - 1 Peter 2:15
The truth I’ve learned about the future is this; we can hope and wish and plan for what we want for tomorrow but the truth is God’s plan for our lives is much better than our own and he will always make our path straight if we lean and trust in him. We can try to plan every detail and aspect of how we want our life to be but God knows what the future has in store for us.
Lean on the Lord and trust in him. Take the next step of faith by what he has shown us and pray he closes doors not intended to open and opens ones that follow his plan.
There is comfort in knowing the one who knows the plans for tomorrow has chosen YOU and LOVES YOU! God is a God of comfort who know whats best for each and every one of us.
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”-Romans 15:13
